Kaptivate Wins Award to Design and Implement Work-Based Learning Ecosystem Prize Challenge

The Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) has selected Kaptivate to design, launch, and conduct an open innovation competition--the Work Based Learning Ecosystem Challenge--to create, enhance, and expand high-quality Work Based Learning (WBL) opportunities for Career Technical Education (CTE) students.

Working closely with the Department of Education we will achieve this objective by encouraging collaborative communities of educators, business and industry, workforce professionals, and community stakeholders to support students with career development and preparation. “Rallying communities to solve big problems and cultivate opportunities is the promise of open innovation and crowdsourced solutions,” said Ron Vassallo, Kaptivate’s Chief Executive Officer when acknowledging the award. “It’s the critical work that animates our team and why we’re honored to partner with the Department.”

In 2019, the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Training Education Act was amended to develop the academic knowledge and job skills of high school and college students who elect to enroll in CTE programs. This amendment, also known as Perkins V, was meant to incorporate work based learning to help young people bridge the transition between education and employment. Ultimately, the intent is to use high-quality work based learning as a continuum of experiences that provide relevant and meaningful career-related benefits to both students and employers. These experiences include pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, internships, and employment directly related to a CTE program of study.
